Morphometric Analysis of the Aorto-Esophageal Relationship in Swine for Trans-Esophageal Aortic Blood Flow Occlusion

Background
 Trans-esophageal aortic blood flow occlusion (TEABO) is an emerging technology undergoing laboratory research that offers a strategy for temporary hemorrhage control. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anatomical relationship between esophagus and descending thoracic aorta in two breeds swine support porcine model future TEABO investigations.
 Methods 
 Thoracoabdominal CT scans were compared Hanford miniature Yorkshire swine. Measurements taken at five vertebral levels proximal gastroesophageal junction. Data collected included distance center aorta, angle column, esophagus, length travels anteriorly aorta.
 Results Ten ten compared. In swine, distal mean 11.5 ± 2.3 cm. right aorta. body, 79.6 97.8 degrees higher Hanfords Yorkshires (p<0.0001 all compared). 0.2 0.6 cm with significant difference found only (p=0.01 p=0.02).
 Conclusion possess aorto-esophageal comparable humans should be preferred animal studies.
